Annie Belle's a Meridian girl. I can't say she came "from the wrong side of the tracks" because there is no right side in Meridian, but she clawed her way up from a lot lower than she lets on, though. Her dad was MIA long before Annie Belle can remember. Her mom always told her he was killed in one of the gang wars, but that might just have been a prettier story than "he didn't want to be weighed down by a kid". Annie Belle doesn't even know his name, and claims not to care. Mom did what she could to keep them together and her little girl safe - rag picking, drug dealing, sleeping with the landlord, seedier things she tried to hide. Annie Belle ran with a girl gang until she got pretty enough for jealousy to become an issue, and then she found another way out. The first gangster had to have known she was underage, but she learned how to cover for that. By game start she's worked her way up to one boyfriend, high enough in the system to have his own Meridian stone. She's cleaned up her background, her slum accent, and her makeup. She may still be just a trophy - but she's an expensive trophy. She skims enough money off to keep her Mom in a nursing home off in one of the quieter neighborhoods. Mom's lifestyle finally caught up with her, and she needs the care. If it were just Annie Belle, she'd probably ditch the mobs and go out on her own, but right now this is the best way to keep the medical bills covered.
